Why it works

Blackfire Torch and Liandry's Torment stack damage over time on enemies held in Tormented Shadow, and Rylai's Crystal Scepter slows their escape. Zhonya's Hourglass is the sole active item and buys time during Soul Shackles, while Arcane Comet and Scorch improve poke after Dark Binding.
